I know most of you kids use those red and white bobbers, right? Stop using those! Something better is a Thill Shy bite or Waggler type floats. Thill Shy Bites are very sensitive and detect even the slightest movement. If a fish comes under it, the float will lift up.
Wagglers are just as good.

I went to a fishing match at Barth Pond one day. We were told the match was at 5:30. We got there at about that time but only one guy was there. He said he wasn’t from the Midwest Anglers Club so he wasn’t the guy we were looking for so we decided just to fish.

As we were coming home we saw two guys unpacking a load of things and they were from the Midwest Anglers Club. There was John, Art, and some other guy. We were told that they would be selling a 1000 maggots for something dollars. But, unfortunately they weren’t. Then we had to go find a bait shop but we couldn’t.

Then we come back and John saves the day. He sold us some maggots to use.

We started fishing and John hooks into a carp. At the of the match I had 36 fish, and who knows what the other people had. Of course they forgot the scale so there was no way to judge the match. We decided to keep fishing for fun and the first bite I had was my first shiner.

At the end of the day I had a bag of 73 fish.

I was fishing at my secret pond. For bait we were using night crawlers.

We got there and we were setting up our gear and my dad was seeing big fish. I made my first cast and a second passed and I had a bluegill. We started seeing carp jump. We were hoping we would catch one. I made a cast and something was playing with. It finally took and I set the hook. It was fighting harder than most of the bluegills. I thought it was just a big bluegill. We got it in and it was a bass around 10 inches. That was the second bass I caught from there.

We kept on fishing and we kept on catching bluegill. It was getting late and my dad wanted me to catch one big fish. He put on what was left of a worm in hopes of a catfish and possibly a carp. We were standing there getting eaten alive by mosquitoes.(We didn’t bring any bug spray). I then hooked into a big fish. I set my drag super low because we had light line. It swam into the weeds and I thought I lost it. So I was pulling and it finally came out. I got it close to shore and it looked like a carp. My dad netted the fish and he said” That looks like a bass”. I got real exited. We got up on shore an I could easily see it was the biggest bass I have ever caught. The hook was hanging on by a tiny piece of skin. The weird thing was, before we were going I said that I highly doubted we wold catch a bass.
